Such was the case for the original founder of WinterSilks, who, 30 years ago, regularly found himself trekking home on late December evenings in sub-zero weather. One day, having grown weary of waiting for his frozen limbs to thaw, he happened upon a pair of silk long johns. Willing to give them a try, he wore them home that very night. Much to his astonishment, they kept him wonderfully warm and pleasantly dry. The next day, he wore them under his work clothes, and again, found himself incredibly comfortable at the office, not to mention equally warmed walking home.

The concept of marketing silk garments to the public was born of this experience. From that day forward, WinterSilks was in the business of bringing luxurious warmth to the world. The original concept then expanded from silk long johns to include lingerie, men's and women's fashions, outerwear, and accessories.

Over the years, WinterSilks developed a strong niche in the specialty mail order business. With a keen expertise in silk, vast importation experience with the Far East, and a large following of patrons enamored of beautifully crafted silk garments, WinterSilks evolved into the largest and most successful merchant of filament silk in the United States.
