It may have begun with Frosty and his "old silk hat," but we at WinterSilks have a soft spot for those happy little jingles played throughout this sometimes hectic season. In fact, they helped inspire our 2008 Silk Gift Guide. Silk just happens to share some of the wonderful qualities these ditties touch on. For example, if you want to find a gift of Luxury for Aunt Lori, peruse our Yuletide treasures. Or, if your grandson Will needs something Warm for sledding, consider our new kids' silk turtle, and let it snow! And, if you want to give a gift of silk, but don't know his or her size, our Universal gifts will cover kids from 1 to 92 (and actually kids older than that, too). Also, if you prefer to shop via catalog, simply look for our reindeer gift tag, indicating the very finest gifts for everyone. Not only will each lucky recipient be thankful for his or her gift, they'll also appreciate the thought you put into their holiday happiness.

We recently received a letter from a happy patron in Connecticut. Robin M. shared with us her silk gift tale. "I put this gift so safely away before my friend's birthday that I couldn't find it!" she writes. As her friend's birthday came and went, she still could not place the gift-wrapped box containing the silk charmeuse robe & pajama she had so

thoughtfully picked out for her friend. "I thought it looked very luxurious and he would look like Cary Grant," says Robin about her gift choice. Months went by until it surfaced. "I reached… for my summer shoes, and there was the lovely gift box inside and the gift itself!" She says her friend "was amazed" by the present and "we're both enjoying its history!"

Well-wishing takes on many forms around the globe and we weren't surprised to find that silk plays an integral roll in such activities in Central Asia. There it is customary to present a long piece of silk, called hada, as a sign of friendship and respect. The practice dates back to ancient China, where silk symbolized pure friendship and compassion. Hadas vary in length, color, and quality, but such attributes don't matter much to the receiver as it's the goodwill expressed that is most appreciated. A mini hada may be included in correspondence as a sign to wish others happiness and luck, and people even carry hadas with them when leaving the house just in case they happen to run into a friend or relative.
Keep an eye out for even more interesting silk tidbits in our new holiday catalog! Make sure to check out "Silk Facts," located at the bottom of the pages.

We've said it before, and we'll say it again, you are our absolute best source of inspiration. So, when we started receiving letters with ladies telling us how they like to wear their pashminas, we kept them to look back on. Now, we don't need to tell you how brilliant you are, but below are some illustrations by one of our in-house artists depicting your impeccable fashion sense!
Also, perfect for the holidays, glam up your look with our new sequined pashmina. Mini sequins and paillettes are dusted on our feathery soft silk cashmere blend.

During the whirlwind of a time we call the holiday season, there is one family tradition in particular that we in the WinterSilks office look forward to all year long. A sweet tooth's dream, my wife and her sisters get together to bake their wide array of holiday goodies. During this 2-day affair our kitchen is transformed into something of a Wonka-esque paradise, filled with the mouth-watering smells of pastries, candies, and hundreds of various cookies. After the baking is done my wife wraps them up for friends, neighbors, and of course, the WinterSilks team. They're always very happily received, and I think our friends appreciate the time and thought that goes into each delectable package. Which really goes to show that sometimes the best gifts come from the heart (and it doesn't hurt if they please the mouth as well!) Also, for silk gifts from the heart, please see our Quarterly Update below complete with thoughtful pleasures for everyone on your list.
All the best & a very happy holidays to you and yours!
