Dress easily, live naturally! 'Eco-logical' fabrications with unexpectedly
stylish details and colors.
It seems everyone is 'going green' these days, but here at WinterSilks 'natural'
is not a fad, it's how we've been doing business for more than 30 years. And since
we've been honing our eco-wardrobe skills for over three decades, we've been able
to come up with some of the very best, and most wearable, all-natural fabrications.
Silk cotton, for example, is the eco-fashion-phile favorite. We've created a sleeveless blouse punctuated with gorgeous eyelets in the crisp,
breathable fabric (and included a layering cami to make wearing it a breeze). Another
fabrication on the 'love it' list this summer? Classic silk linen. Mixing the natural woven luster of linen with silk's
color-thirsty absorbency is the key to its brilliant look. Find detailed tunics,
our best
shirt dress, and our fresh blazer that shines in White or Grenadine. The newest
of our natural knits, silk bamboo, makes our softest, most irresistible sleepwear yet. The drape is amazing, the
smooth feel is cool in the summer and warm in the winter, and it's all specially
priced during our Summer Silk Sleepwear Sale (starting April 6)!

Flex your green thumb, in and out of the backyard. Recycling
tips for birds & blooms, while keeping cool in silk.
Spring is the season to renew, refresh, and reinvent. So, we thought, what better
time to share a couple of our favorite 'green' tricks to help usher in the birds
and blooms? We turned to our resident 'queens of green' around the WinterSilks office
to share their favorite garden recycling tips.
The birds are one of the first signs of spring in Madison, WI, and to help them
settle in after a long winter away Wendy uses mesh bags from store-bought fruits
& veggies by filling them with dryer lint & brushed out pet hair. Feathered friends
appreciate these nest-building tools, showing their thanks with morning songs.
Now that your ears are happy, you can work on sight & smell! Shawna, a rose bed
ace, protects her prized buds & blooms using old newspapers. While weeds can find
their way through some gardening plastics, they'll never get through wet newspaper.
Tear yesterday's news into strips, wet them, and place them around the bases of
all your plants, overlapping as you go. Cover with mulch, and enjoy a weed-free
garden all summer.
There also are several dining scraps that will continue to nourish long after their
original dish has been enjoyed. Jennifer plants her spare fresh garlic cloves, green
onion roots & whites, and avocado pits in indoor planters, and harvests her very
own eco-friendly organic food year-round! And when she goes to the market, she always
keeps our newest self-pocket habutai tote with her. It's fun, eco-friendly,
and completely original featuring a hand-drawn print. And we all make sure to stock
up on cool silk layers
and sunny tees
to stay comfy in lion or lamb weather. Happy gardening!

Let's dish retro: easy salad days throwback.
Remember the simpler days, before arugula, spring mix, and micro-greens? Back when
crisp iceberg was the base of choice for cold veggie dishes, preferably accompanied
by thick, rich dressing. We do, and we miss them sometimes. So we're working to
bring back the American classic wedge salad (which wouldn't be possible without
our 'Where in the world' location, to the right).
Ingredients
- 1 head iceberg lettuce
- Blue cheese or buttermilk dressing
- 1 tomato, minced
- 2 or 3 hard boiled eggs, peeled and chopped
- 1/2 cup crumbled blue cheese
- 1 cup cooked bacon, crumbled
Directions
Remove core of lettuce by smacking it on the counter to loosen. Cut the head into
quarters. On each salad plate, place one wedge of lettuce turned on its side. Pour
a generous amount of dressing on wedge. Divide remaining ingredients between the
four salads, artfully arranging around or atop the wedge.

A thousand thanks to a storied silk friend: Alexandra's colorful
use of 'precious' silk trinkets and baubles.
The winner of our Winter Silk Quarterly 'Show us your inventive side' contest, Alexandra,
impressed us with her artful use of old silks. 'When something became worn,' she
wrote, 'I would replace, but I never could discard! It was silk, precious.' So what
was she to do with the turtles, tees, and blazers she had worn with joy for years?
'Some of my noble silks are now becoming luxurious pillows,' our crafty comrade
wrote. And with other silk pieces, she's created beautifully friendly 'monsters'
to accompany the stories she writes for her grandchildren. Cheers to you Alexandra,
and thank you for sharing your inventive story!

From the President:
Spring cleaning, in cyber space!
There's always room for improvement. This is a mantra that
I follow every day, especially when it comes to providing you the very best service
in the business. In keeping with this phrase, I've been collecting all of your comments
and suggestions about our website over the past couple of years.
You asked for a more user-friendly Clearance department, so we've added a 'Find
Your Size' drop box to help cater the selection directly to you. Also, one of my
personal favorite upgrades is our new zoom feature. It really lets you get 'up close
and personal' with our many textures, prints, colors, and exclusive details, and
provides a crystal clear picture of the quality we guarantee. And take a look at
our summer Look Book below. The preview
is one of our ways of saying 'thanks' for reading our newsletter. Another way we're
springing forward is with our 'Silk Comfort Zone.' The goal is to provide you our silk suggestions
depending on your personal comfort needs. If you have any other suggestions for
us,
please

Where in the world? Win a leather-bound travel journal, 'let us' give you a clue!
|
In a state bordered by New York and Ohio lies a place know
for its green 'icebergs' and red 'big boys.' In fact, the 'seeds' of this community
include one of the most famous gardens in the country, first inspired by the victory
gardens during the Great War. You may receive mail from the garden's owners and
operators. The town itself originated in 1745 with the building of a tavern by its
namesake. Among those who have called the town home: a Nobel Prize winner, an 'American
Idol' runner-up, and a champion track cyclist.
Can you guess the location? Simply e-mail us your answer by 04/16/10, and one correct entry
will be chosen at random to receive a travel journal.
And remember, if you happen to be traveling yourself this season, don't forget to
pack our wardrobe-building silk viscose
spandex separates. The tunic, tank, culotte, and pant pack ultra-light and drape every figure
fantastically, with great colors and a new print to mix-and-match for endless dressing
possibilities!
