Green thumb or not, everyone loves the aesthetic, not to mention aroma, of fresh-cut flowers. A beautiful way to usher in the warm months, here are a few pointers to keep them their freshest!

Peg leg? No way. Parrot? Passé! Eighteenth-century pillagers in-the-know accessorized in silk. According to narratives published by the Maritime Research Society, famed pirate Bartholomew Roberts appeared in battle wearing "two pair of pistols hanging at the end of a silk sling flung over his shoulders, (in) the custom of the pirates." This account helped solve the mystery of the 1983 discovery of "Whydah," a shipwreck found off the coast of Cape Cod. Other silk evidence has been found at shipwrecks also, including a silk bandana on the Confederate submarine H.L. Hunley, which sank in 1864. Artifacts from the sub currently are being restored at Clemson University, having a combined value of more than $40 million. While all other fabrics had eroded since the doomed voyage from the Caribbean in 1717, a silk ribbon was found wrapped around the handle of a French-made pistol... more than 250 years later. The silk helped identify the ship as belonging to buccaneer Sam Bellamy. All other natural textiles will erode in salt water within a couple weeks, silk's incredible strength allows it to last centuries. Modern silk-loving sea-farers will appreciate our latest ladies' nautical striped silk cotton tee with matching knit pants, or our new navy cardigan & shell with contrast tipping. Just another reason "Whydah" wear silk! |

Marketing Director, Donna |
Cranberry, apple, corn, blueberry, and, our unofficial state food, bratwurst. In Wisconsin there's a festival dedicated to just about every food produced here, and more than likely our director of marketing, Donna, has been to it. When she's not making sure our catalogs are printed correctly on the right paper with the proper postage and an accurate customer number, then delivered on the correct date to your home, Donna and her family enjoy weekends traveling the state in "a quest for adventures." Being an organized person, Donna and her family follow a set of guidelines when deciding which festivals to visit. First, they prefer food themes, she says. Next, it has to have some educational components, and they must try the food the festival is celebrating. There's much to be learned at these community gatherings, she says, including an appreciation for smaller pleasures, humility "it's hard to participate in a tractor pull as a 7-year-old without a bit of guts and humility," and how to balance "a goldfish, blueberry pie, and watercolor postcard while a family member rides the Tilt-a-Whirl." Her suggestions for her fellow fest-goers: silk camisoles are great layers when the temps drop at night and you "must come with an open mind and good walking shoes." |

Fashion this summer is all about graphic prints and bright colors, and our designers came up with some one-of-a-kind, artistic prints incorporating these exciting trends. For the most flattering silhouettes on any lady's figure, look no further than our Koi print flowing tunic and Graphic Leaf print wrap dress, both in our first-ever summer catalog! We also haven't forgotten the fellas with our two newest Figi print silk herringbone shirts that bring a taste of the tropics wherever you wear them. For colors, we have tees and summer-weight sweaters in bright greens, vivid purples, and brilliant blues, sure to add a value-priced pop to anyone's wardrobe.

| Hello Silk Quarterly readers. I’m thrilled to share my first letter with all of you as WinterSilks’ new president. In preparation, I did a little research, which included looking up the word “change” in my trusty Webster’s unabridged. I was surprised to find more than 50 synonyms, almost all of which have very positive connotations. Change itself is sometimes challenging, but it’s during these moments that we grow as individuals, as leaders, and as global citizens. I’ve been with WinterSilks for more than 15 years, and feel we have great opportunities ahead to share with you in the form of great service, quality, value, and innovation. My team and I are excited to be offering you, this season, our largest collection of natural, comfortable, spring & summertime silk ever. As always, you, our most loyal customers, ultimately determine how we evolve in the future. I greatly appreciate you sharing your feedback, ideas, questions, and concerns with me at President@WinterSilks.net, since I’m constantly learning what we can do to help serve you better.
All the best, |
 |
Jeff Baudhuin

On the 22nd of April people will gather worldwide to celebrate our planet. Earth Day originated 38 years ago as a response to environmental depredation. Today, it’s grown into a holiday celebrated by more than a half billion people, according to the Earth Day Network. We’re pleased to offer our largest selection ever of all-natural silk bamboo sleepwear, as well as our “New Naturals” soy-blend tees. Soybean protein is spun into yarn and the leftover material is used as eco-friendly fertilizer. Happy Earth Day!

Last spring, we asked what the most important attributes of a T-shirt are to you. We got a wonderful number of responses, read every single one, and used your comments to design our 6 new ladies’ tees and 2 new tees for men. They’re built to last, color fast, and, of course, made of the absolutely most comfortable fabrics imaginable.
