Dudley, one of our favorite long-time customers and a sprightly outdoorsman, has been wearing WinterSilks’ lightweight filament silk long underwear for more than 10 years. He loves that they are "just cozy in the winter, cooool in the summer!" Over the years, he’s taken his silk on quite a few adventures.
One of the active retiree’s favorite examples is a whitewater rafting excursion on the Middle Fork of the Salmon River in Idaho. Also known as "The River of No Return," the Salmon runs longer than 125 miles and has some pretty intimidating rapids. While on the river, Dudley "misjudged" one of the rapids, leaving him and his raft stranded on two rocks, the river running a few inches below. Thankfully, Dudley and his silk long johns were no worse for the wear after a fellow rafter bailed him out. When he’s not testing his long underwear in white waters, Dudley is an avid angler and skier. And, he said, whether he’s fly fishing or downhill skiing near his home in Big Sky, Montana, he wears WinterSilks’ filament silk long underwear "almost every day."

Shakespeare wrote "winter tames man, woman, and beast." Here are some tips for keeping comfortable during winter months, and guess what is #1—layering! Just start from your skin and work outward:
• We suggest you start with a moisture-wicking first layer, and the key to keeping moisture off your skin is choosing a fast-drying fabric. While wool and cotton can be warm, they dry slowly , holding heat-draining moisture against your body. Silk, however, not only feels luxuriously comfortable, it also dries quickly, pulling chilly moisture away from the skin. Silk T-shirts, turtlenecks, long underwear, and sock & glove liners are ideal first layers.
• The second essential winter layer is an insulator. Moisture absorbed by the first layer must have somewhere to go. Superior insulators will trap warm air, but offer ventilation when you start to overheat. Silk keeps warmth next to the body, yet is lightweight enough to keep you from overheating. Try silk sweaters, sweatshirts, leg-warmers, and scarves.
 • Finally, an outer layer shields you from the cold outside. Parkas, overcoats, gloves, hats, and balaclavas ensure the wrath of winter wind never reaches your skin.
In addition to wearing silk layers, remember to drink plenty of water to avoid the side affects of dry air, and use body lotion after bathing. |

| We are crazy about silk, and you, our valued customers, are too. But, we get especially excited when the national press takes note of our affordable, luxurious silk products. Recently, we were featured in Good Housekeeping’s Savvy Consumer’s “Hot Tips for Buying Long Johns” and Gentlemen Quarterly’s “Winter Survival Guide.” |

As a lifelong Wisconsinite, I’ve become somewhat acclimated to bitter cold winters, with the help of my trusty silk long underwear, of course. However, during a recent layover in the Minneapolis airport on my way to a last-minute meeting, I found myself unprepared for the cold. After hours on the cramped plane, we were hustled into the frigid Minneapolis jetway. As the president of the #1 silk long underwear supplier in the country, it was a little comical that in the rush to catch my flight, I had forgotten to pack gear for the unpredictable temps. The irony was chilling.
It just goes to show whether playing a round of winter golf or jetting off on a last-minute business trip, the uses for all-natural silk layering pieces are endless. They’ll help protect against chilly airports, yet keep you comfortably cool on a packed flight. And, with its ability to fold small enough to take up negligible space in any briefcase or carryon, silk is the ultimate travel accessory.
By the way, if you don’t find what you’re looking for in our growing collection of silk layering pieces, let me know! Your satisfaction is my #1 priority.
Warm regards! |

While many hands (and heads) go into bringing you our quarterly dose of all-things silk, none of it would be possible without our resident Internet pro Mike. In fact, Mike is responsible for bringing this quarterly newsletter to your inbox. Mike takes special pride in ensuring our customers can clearly see and read our messages, and that the WinterSilks website is accessible to our customers with visual impairment. He places auditory descriptions with each product on our website, so customers with special software can hear rather than see the items.
Mike describes himself as a “pretty easygoing” guy who always has had an affinity for information technology. And, he and his technologically minded comrades in the IT department are a close-knit group, he says.
Although Mike works out of our office in sunny Jacksonville, Fla., he makes sure to stock up on silk long underwear because even Florida gets cold, he says, especially during Monday night Jaguars games. |

Now that we have warmed you on the outside, here’s another tip to warm your inside. One of our best-kept secrets at WinterSilks is graphic artist Ben and his delectable recipes. In addition to his creative talents, around here he’s also known for his culinary artifice. If there was Iron Chef of Madison, we’d support Ben hands down.
So, of course we went to him for an original chili recipe to warm up the winter months. After all, we take winter warmth seriously, inside and out! Enjoy!
