Quarterly Update:
From bellbottoms to Blackberrys.
This fall it seems everything's turning up paisley! The iconic floral teardrop pattern
has proven itself as a go-to for generations, originally making its way into Western
culture through shawls produced in Paisley, Scotland beginning in the 19th century.
Then, paisley made a psychedelic appearance during the Summer of Love, adorning
everything from John Lennon's Rolls Royce to one far-out Fender Telecaster. Although
the days of bellbottoms are long gone, paisley has endured, perhaps because of its
exotic flair or the confidence ascertained by wearing the beautiful motif. You'll
find paisley on everything from silk sleepwear for him to a new gorgeous sateen shirt for her. And, make sure to take a look at
our brand-new paisely long sleeve tee. The subtle interpretation showcased on this
tee comes in two color ways to flatter every skin tone! Waxing nostalgic, we think
it's pretty groovy.

Silk Abroad: Text messages from the past...Eastern classics written
on silk.
“Study the past if you would define the future,” said the Chinese philosopher
Confucius. It seems, therefore, perfectly fitting that commentaries attributed to
the early thinker were found on silk texts in China in the early 1970s. The texts,
dubbed the Mawangdui Silk Texts based on the archeological site where they were
unearthed, date from 168 BC. They were written on pure silk and explored topics
ranging from medical works to classical arts. In addition, they included the earliest
known manuscripts of the Tao te Ching and the I Ching, among others,
up to a total of 28 scripts. Because of silk's incredible strength the pieces were
found remarkably intact, but confusion in interpretation has stemmed from the short-hand
characters used. Regardless, these written works give us a glimpse to the past,
thanks to the amazing longevity of silk.

Kind words from a neighbor to the north!
We recently received a delightful letter from Patricia of Westmount, Quebec. The
cheerful retired textbook author wrote to commend our silk products and service.
“Any conversation I have had with your customer service representatives has
been friendly, helpful and relaxed,” wrote Patricia. “All of this makes
shopping with WinterSilks a real pleasure.” And, she noted silk is her fabric
of choice. “Silk is marvelous for layering, and in a country like Canada...
it's essential to be able to add and subtract layers as needed.”; A wonderful

From the President:
Everything old is new again,
you heard it here first!
Fall is the season that we in the WinterSilks office consider
our yearly kick-off. After all, it's prime time to start stocking up on warm silk
layers, hence our annual Pre-Season Long Underwear Sale. (By the way, my trusty Old
Farmer's Almanac is predicting a cooler than normal fall, so make sure to take advantage
of the special pricing!) This year, we've been particularly busy trying to find
ways to make your catalog shopping experience even easier. You'll notice a couple
of these updates in your fall catalog, in fact. We've re-designed our product descriptions,
allowing more space for bigger photos and shopping ease. We're also re-organizing
our long underwear pages by silhouette rather than just weight. So, if you want
a long sleeve crewneck, you have three levels of warmth on the same page. And, we're
very excited about our new state-of-the-art Techno Silks, debuting in our Autumn
catalog. Ergonomically designed for a perfect fit, these long underwear for him

A neck up! Share your

WinterSilks does a
modern dance.
This spring we teamed up with Kanopy Dance Company, a modern
professional company here in Madison, Wis., outfitting the dancers in its “Dance
Here, Dance Now” show. The inspiration for choreography came from local freshwater
streams, and our silk pajamas helped enhance the rippling lighting effects and fluid
motion of the dancers, creating a most striking effect. “We wanted a surreal,
dreamy look,” said the company's artistic director, Lisa. “Silk magically
picks up the light...giving it that look.”
